Unfriended Over Politics

How the Presidential Election Is Driving A Wedge in Old Relationships

November 6, 2016

A few months ago, Lisa Schiffren noticed a change in her Facebook interactions. As a conservative columnist, she's used to sharing articles and hosting (mostly) friendly debates, but in the last months of the campaign season, the conversational tone on her feed grew angrier and more antagonistic. She tells Anne Strainchamps that she's lost friends over this election season and that some of them, she won't miss.

Besides being a fine friend and a terrific writer, Lisa has emerged in my view as one of our most important and thoughtful public intellectuals. I'm both her friend and a fan.

Lisa is one of the most honest people I know. Every election cycle we avoid each other's political posts, as I am a liberal moonbat and she is a conservative wingnut. :) There's much more in life to bring us together than divide us. Of course it helps that she isn't afraid to listen to alternative views and is a deep thinker.
