Singer Diamanda Galas: The 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide

April 19, 2015

There are many ways to react to the tragedies of the past. Politically. Historically. And even… musically.

Diamanda Galas on her double CD "Defixiones: Will and Testament." It’s a meditation on the mass killing of Greeks, Assyrians, and Armenians 100 years ago by the hands of Turkey. Many scholars have called this the first modern genocide.

Thank you for your story. In my family, the elder Armenians suffered PTSD, and we only learned in fragments about the atrocities. The politics of history and genocide denial is shameful and it hurts. Thank you for bravely acknowledging the genocide of the Armenians and Greeks. We pray that President Obama does the same.
