The idea of a universal basic income is getting serious consideration these days from governments -- in Switzerland, Finland, even Kenya. Could it get traction in the U.S.? Absolutely, says journalist Rutger Bregman.

The tech and globalization changes in recent decades have made this necessary. No politician is being honest about the absolute fact that manufacturing jobs are not coming back, and that the future economy cannot be based on consumption of goods as it was in the past. There will be more and more people who will not have "jobs" as we have known them. But that does not mean that the nation is poor! What is needed is a way to distribute the great wealth that we create. Each of us should have a share in America. This idea needs to be shared until everyone has heard it.
