Ruth Ozeki bookmarks "Kamikaze Diaries" by Emiko Ohnuki-Tierney.

one of the best books i have run across from that miserable era is "Hiroshima Diary" by Michihiko Hachiya. He gives an account which chronicles the explosion from his view as husband, neighbor, doctor, scientist, lacerated victim, appalled citizen, and most of all a horrified overwhelmed human trying to apprehend what has happened. From my reading of his dairy i think his experience will ring true for anyone anywhere in a brutish, socially cancerous industrialized world.
